Kyle Farrar, Wes Ball Featured on The Great Trials Podcast

The Great Trials Podcast featured veteran trial lawyers Kyle Farrar and Wes Ball in an episode highlighting the firm’s $11.7 million jury verdict on behalf of a mother and daughter who were severely injured in a 2018 multivehicle crash.

The lawsuit alleged a Bridgestone L315 tire, retreaded by McCarthy Tire using Bridgestone Bandag technology, was defective and caused a horrific accident in which Shanika Lakiya Brown’s arm and her baby daughter’s leg were severed when they were ejected from their vehicle during a pileup on a Silvi-owned concrete mixer in New Jersey.

The trial team prevailed against numerous appellate roadblocks mounted by the tire companies, including jurisdictional appeals that stretched out over a two-year period and several appeals filed to the Pennsylvania Supreme Court on the eve of trial. The jury verdict alone was one of the largest tire-tread defect verdicts of 2018, and the confidential settlements placed the total recovery significantly higher.

“Frankly, no one had a cohesive story,” Mr. Ball told The Great Trials Podcast when discussing legal strategy. “We purposefully put the defendants in that situation. We knew that the defendants were pitted against each other.”

The case is Shanika Lakiya Brown et al. v Silvi Concrete Products et al. in the Philadelphia County Court of Common Pleas, Case No. 151000925.
